Year after year, the room packed with dreams is among the most popular exhibits at the Canadian International AutoShow.
Auto Exotica is consistently selected by AutoShow patrons as their favourite part of the show, and there is little mystery why. The showcase is annually stocked with cars most of us can only look at longingly — among them this year were Tesla with a three-car display, Pfaff Automotive presenting a Pagani, Singer and Pininfarina Battista, Lotus/Gentry Lane with a pair of their supercars and Autostrada with a showcase of various collector cars including brands such as Ferrari and Lamborghini. The Canadian-made FELINO will be made its Ontario debut at the AutoShow.
Autostrada anchored Auto Exotica this year with a stunning 13-car display, plus a unique addition not usually seen at an auto show — a tractor. The 1966 Lamborghini Trattoria R1 tractor is a reminder of the humble origins of one of the world’s most renowned supercar marques.
But with the tractor was an incredible collection of vehicles, including a 1966 Shelby Cobra Competition, Italian sportscar 1972 Lancia Stratos, the classic-looking 2013 Morgan Aero Supersports and a 1970 Lamborghini Miura, the first supercar to feature a rear mid-engined two-seat layout, and the fastest production car in the world when it was released.
Last year, the AutoShow introduced Light Up the Night in Auto Exotica, when two different cars in the exhibit were fired up each night in front of a live audience, letting all hear the deep rumble of their powerful engines. It drew rave reviews, and Light Up the Night, presented by SiriusXM returned, bigger and better, than ever for 2020.
In total, more than 25 luxury and exotic cars were on showcase in Auto Exotica, presented by Castrol and the National Post.

On February 13th, as the 2020 Canadian International AutoShow opened for its Media Preview Day, Toyota Canada President and Chief Executive Officer, Larry Hutchinson walked us through the electrified transformation happening in-market and the impact it has made on reducing our collective carbon footprint.
Accompanied by Alex Wurz, a former Formula 1 diver, two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and current advisor to Toyota’s Gazoo Racing World Endurance Championship team, Mr. Hutchinson helped open the AutoShow’s Media Preview Day with a keynote address at 8 a.m. in the John Bassett Theatre (100 level, North Building, Metro Toronto Convention Centre).
The theme of the presentation mirrors that of the 2020 AutoShow — Transformative Times. With the Toyota RAV4 Prime and TS050 Hybrid race car (the #8 car that won the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race) on stage, Mr. Hutchinson explored the electrification of the automobile, and delve into why — in a world concerned about carbon emissions — Toyota continues to participate in motorsports.
The electrification movement was prominent in the exhibits for Toyota and Lexus at the AutoShow. Toyota displayed the RAV4 Prime, Prius Prime and hydrogen-powered Mirai, as well as a new GR Supra Track Concept. Lexus showed off six electrified Lexus vehicles, including the LF-30 Concept.

Some of the most classic, rare — and valuable — cars found at the Canadian International AutoShow were part of Cobble Beach Classics. This year’s exhibit from Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance featured 15 cars from throughout the 20thcentury, all beautifully and painstakingly restored.
“Each of these beautiful cars can be considered a disruptor in the automotive industry,” said Rob McLeese, Founder and Show Chair of Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance. “They changed the game when they were introduced with new technologies or styles. They made a difference, and turned things in a new direction.”

Besides the multitude of family vehicles found across the show floors in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, recent years have seen special exhibits and presentations geared specifically towards families with young children. This year, the young ones could see some of their favourite Disney and Pixar vehicles in person, along with one of the largest indoor remote-controlled car demonstration test tracks and one of Canada’s leading toy retailers.
The main family feature was ONWARD (and a bit backwards): The Pixar Vehicle Experience. Walt Disney Studios Canada allowed you to step into the suburban fantasy world of Disney and Pixar’s upcoming film “Onward.” The exhibit included a life-size replica of Barley’s (voiced by Chris Pratt) treasured van he calls “Guinevere.” Along with his brother Ian (voiced by Tom Holland), they embark on a quest in this mighty steed that promises to test their relationship.
Fans had the opportunity to pose and take photos with this groovy purple van spectacularly decked out with crescent moon windows and a Pegasus mural, as well as take photos with life-size cut outs of Ian and Barley. Additionally, a wizard was present on select days to perform illusions inspired by the spells and magic performed in the film. “Onward” opens in theatres across the country on March 5.
Walt Disney Studios Canada also featured a life-size replica of Lightning McQueen from Disney and Pixar’s Cars films, and a life-size replica motorcycle of Canada’s greatest stuntman, Duke Caboom from “Toy Story 4.” “Cars,” “Cars 2” and “Cars 3” are now streaming on Disney+, and “Toy Story 4” will be joining the rest of the Toy Story films on the streaming service soon.
In the middle of Castrol Alley, Big Boys with Cool Toys, Canada‘s largest remote control hobby store, exhibited some of the coolest remote control products available in the industry.
